Research Notes: From Veronica Soza Flannigan 3 Feb 2008, "My grandfather, Manuel Soza, died in 1933, the year before I was born is what I recall. When he came to this country, his name was spelled SOUZA, but because there were so many Manuel Souza's he said let's leave the "u" out of it. My father said this." [Paul Fuller Souza]

Just before Paul Soza died, he stated their surname may have been Esteve or Esteves. Aunt Kathleen Costa said the same thing. More research required.

Beyond that, I found the record that ties all the names together in the marriage of João's parents Antonio and Gertrudes Mariana.

Antonio's father is listed as José de Sousa Teixeira (old spelling Theixeira) which shows where your Sousa Teixeira name comes from.
Gertrudes Mariana's father is listed as João? Esteves Franco which shows where Esteves (sometimes written as Estevão) comes from.

Interestingly, the record you happened upon for João Esteves Franco is probably a cousin to you. He is two or three generations younger than your ancestor by the same name in this record Left Side .
