From Jeff Miller's Sprouse Family website:

Important Message: During research on this side of the Sprouse family it must be realized that me and many of other researchers have come across at least three to four Vincent's in our research. These Vincent's are all different, but early research showed them as the same. It appears to me and others that Vincent or Vinson had a son Vincent and at least two of his grandchildren are also named Vincent, causing much confusion. This information needs to be figured out. Any input on this matter would really be helpful and appreciated. The two major dates that keep coming up are for Vincent Sr. dying September 6, 1830 near Gowdeyville, Union District, South Carolina. and his son dying d: 1879 in Polk Co., North Carolina. These dates would mean that each died being well over 100 years old. Possible but highly unlikely for the times.

Vinson Sprouse, name also seen as Vincent
b: about 1720 in Virginia,
d: actually unknown in early research it is stated that he died September 6, 1830 near Gowdeyville, Union District, South Carolina

Mary Sprouse

Summary Contains a petition of John Lewis, John Pulliam, Thomas Madison, William Ingles, William Spear, Charles Sprouse, Charles Lewis, Thomas Dohany, Thomas Rutherford, William Daniel Fitch, Samuel Monday, John May, N[?] Lewis, Spencer Bobo, & Peter Clarkson to Governor Norborne, Baron de Botetourt, asking for leave to take up & survey fifteen thousand acres of land lying on the eastern side of the Ohio River below the mouth of the Great Guyandotte having lately been recognized by the Six Nations of Indians. The petition is unsigned. These colonial papers are a collection of loose papers more closely connected by age than by any other single factor that consist largely of records kept by the clerk of the colonial council, House of Burgesses, the governor and other officials, relating to county as well as colony-wide government. The records of the colonial government have, for the most part, been destroyed by wars, fires, and early neglect. This collection of loose colonial papers is arranged in chronological order, in fifty-three folders. The collection consists of petitions to the governor or House of Burgesses, court records, orders, summonses, patents, accounts, proceedings, returns, grants, proclamations, addresses, certificates and correspondence.

Note The history of Virginia's colonial government is divided into two significant phases by the date of May 24, 1624, when the charter of the Virginia Company of London was revoked by the crown. Prior to that date the colony had been run as a private corporation with final authority resting in the hands of the stockholders; afterwards, it was a royal colony with all the trappings and institutions of government that such a status required. The Grand Assembly, begun in 1619, evolved into the House of Burgesses by 1642, governors and lieutenant governors were sent to the colony as the king's viceroys, regular courts were established, and a complex system of government was developed to lead and protect the growing colony.
