Patrick Henry Childress Family Bible (1832-1914)

Once in the possession of Virginia (Childress) Stone, the location of this
Bible is currently unknown. Her sister Margueritte (Childress) Loving, the
family historian, in 1988 provided me with the information she had copied
from this Bible. She also was unaware of the location of the Bible at that
time stating she thought some of Virginia's people had sold it. Margueritte
said the bible had parts of pages torn away and that it was badly stained by
water and hard to read. I suspect that Patrick's wife Martha kept the bible.
This may be indicated by the lack of a death date for her and by the
presence of but a few dates after his death.

Hey Steve! Good news, I was able to find the Certificate to Obtain a Marriage License for David & Eliza. I made a copy and will mail it toyou, if you will e-mail me your address.
The pertinent info: David Dillard Childress was 25 years, 5 months old, and Eliza Jane Pannell was 17 years 10 months old. Both were bornin Augusta County. David was the son of John R. Childress and Mary Stuff (I think); Eliza was the daughter of Benjamin Pannell and Lucy Moses. David was a farmer.
I also copied the certificate permitting the marriage; it reads "This is to certify that the Clerk of Augusta County is authorized to give Mr. David Childress license o marry my daughter, Eliza J. Pannell. As witness my hand and seal this the 29th day of January 1866. signed Benjamin Pannell, witnessed by Vincent Childress."
I'm always glad when I can actually find something! Kinda neat too; my birthday is Feb 1st!
Send me your address. . .
